Warwickshire secured their place in the quarter-finals of the RFU National Under-20 Championship for the first time by beating Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire 32-10.

It was the first time that Warwickshire had completed a clean sweep of wins at the group stage of the competition and ended the hopes of NL&D and Oxford University of topping Midlands League B.

It was a mixed performance by Warwickshire, who capitalised on NL&D's mistakes but who were also made to work hard by the visitors' pack in which skipper and lock Graham Chenworth (Nottingham) impressed.

Warwickshire produced some entertaining rugby with Rugby Lions number eight Wilf Barkley using his strength to open the scoring.

Nuneaton OE fly-half Tom Burdett dummied over for a try which Adam Bond improved and Leamington's winger Chris Murphy showed his pace to give Warwickshire a 17-0 lead at the break.

They increased that with a Burdett drop goal, followed by a try from Daimon Haai after a break from Tim Douglas.

NL&D responded with a well-taken try for Dave West, but Warwickshire scored again when loosehead prop Adam Mills (Nuneaton) drove over. NL&D had the final say with West crossing for a try in injury-time when he caught Warwickshire napping with a quickly-taken penalty.

North Midlands finished bottom of Midlands League B after they were beaten 22-10 by Oxford University.

Moseley's Aaron Higgins scored all the North Midlands points.
