Elliot Ward wants Coventry to finish their three-year Premiership plan ahead of schedule starting on Sunday against Sunderland, writes Ian Clarkson.
When the 21-year-old arrived at the Ricoh Arena for £1 million in the summer, he was the first seven-figure player to pull on the Sky Blue jersey since Lee Hughes.
The rigmarole of pre-season is now firmly behind them and Ward anticipates a successful campaign to vindicate his decision to link up with Micky Adams' squad.
"There were a few clubs after me but this club spoke volumes," he said. "The gaffer spoke very highly of the club and everything I have seen so far is spot on. They have got a three-year plan to get promoted and hopefully we can do it quicker than that.
"Football is always about getting a chance and taking it. I feel I have taken it when given the chance but I have never really managed to keep my place, especially after helping to take them up, so I felt it was time to move on with a fresh challenge." n Sky Blues midfielder Claus Jorgensen has been called into the Faroe Islands squad for the clash with Georgia at the Toftir Stadium on August 16.
