Dear Editor, The news that Birmingham has suffered the largest increase in the number of unemployed people and that there has been a 7.3% increase in the amount of people claiming jobseekers’ allowance, means advice and support for the community are more important than ever.

I would like to remind your readers that help is available through Community Legal Advice.

Community Legal Advice is a free, confidential and independent legal advice service for residents of England and Wales.

Just call 0845 345 4 345 or visit us at www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk

If you live on a low income or benefits, we can give you advice over the phone for debt, welfare benefits and tax credits, housing, education and employment problems.

Since 1st April this year, opening hours have been extended to include a Saturday morning service - open from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Those people who are eligible can speak to an adviser there and then, with no travel and no delays.

If the caller is concerned about the cost of the call (4p per minute from a standard BT landline), we also operate a call back service.

You can text your name and ‘legalaid’ to 80010.

Alternatively, click on the ‘call me back’ option on our website.

If you would prefer we can book an appointment with an advice service near you.

Last year, Community Legal Advice helped over 300,000 people.

At a time when Birmingham has been hit so hard by the recession, it’s vital that people get the help and support they need.

I’d urge your readers to visit www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk or call 0845 345 4 345.
