Aston Villa are on the verge of signing Liverpool striker Milan Baros after the Merseysiders finally decided to accept an offer of around #6million.

David O'Leary has been tracking the Czech international for several weeks as he looks to bolster a strike force of only two senior players, Kevin Phillips and Juan Pablo Angel.

Villa have been optimistic that they could sign the 23-year-old despite Lyon making an offer of #8.5m.

But he has been reluctant to link forces again with his former Anfield boss Gerard Houllier.

Villa are believed to have agreed an initial #6million deal which could rise by another #500,000 based on add-ons.
