Vandalism to one of Birmingham’s main city routes has caused traffic chaos during rush hour.

Traffic signal equipment on the tidal traffic, or central, lane of the Aston Expressway was damaged on Sunday night and it could take at least a week before it is up and running again.

Police are continuing to carry out investigations into the incident and on completion of those investigations engineers will be assessing the damage caused and carrying out the necessary repairs.

This is likely to mean that the tidal flow system will not be operational for several days.

The central lane will be closed for safety reasons which is likely to cause some disruption to traffic flow in the peak traffic times.
