Liam Ridgewell is optimistic that Aston Villa's 2005-06 campaign will provide lessons that could make next season more exciting.

Villa finished 16th and amassed the lowest points total in their Premiership history.

However, the emergence of young, talented players - at one point, seven homegrown players appeared in one Premiership match - provided a consolation.

"It was a disappointing season," Ridgewell said. "It was particularly disappointing for the youngsters because we've come through at the same time.

"We don't like losing, we've not been used to it in the reserves and the youth sides. The team is looking for a top-half finish next season."
