The institution topped the list of West Midlands universities after being ranked eighth nationally in the annual Complete University Guide.
Cambridge beat fierce rivals Oxford to take the top spot in the list, which rates 116 universities on a range of factors including student satisfaction, research, entry standards and spend on academic services.
The University of Birmingham moved up one place to 22nd, while Aston University dropped eight places to 25th.
Birmingham City University fell eight places to 66th, Staffordshire University came 99th and the University of Worcester came 106th.
