The new University of Birmingham School school opening in September has awarded its ICT contract to Oxfordshire-based Computer Systems in Education.

Located in new, purpose-built buildings on the university's Edgbaston campus, the University of Birmingham School will be a comprehensive, co-educational state school for children aged 11-16 from across Birmingham with an academically-selective sixth form college.

It is the first secondary university training school (UTS) in the country which will work closely with academics from the University of Birmingham education school and will have a range of digital and IT services.

Gordon Derham, managing director of CSE, said: "We're delighted to be working with the University of Birmingham School.

"Our product Magellan will play an important part in helping the school deliver its mission, dramatically reducing time spent on administrative tasks and creating universal, streamlined access to the leading edge ICT solutions and engagement for students and staff.

"Our approach puts teaching and learning first reflecting what the new school will be all about as a centre for teaching excellence."

Michael Roden, principal of the University of Birmingham School, added: "I'm really pleased that we have found an IT provider who can deliver this most important part of our school.

"We want our school to be outstanding in every way and we need a state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure which will support the plentiful equipment and software which we will be using in School and allow us to incorporate the best technology into our teaching and learning approaches."
