Two men have been taken to hospital following a chemical blast at a factory in Cannock.

The incident happened at Augean Treatment Limited, at the Cannock Industrial Centre, on Walkmill Lane, at about 11.30am on Friday.

Ambulance crews reported that there had been a small explosion involving a gas chemical at the factory.

A 39-year-old man closest to the blast sustained reddening and irritation to his skin. A second man, aged 29, also suffered some skin redness following the explosion.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The fire service decontaminated both patients using water to remove any residue of the chemical. Both men were taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further assessment and treatment."
