Two people have appeared in court charged with murdering a toddler.
Rebecca Shuttleworth, 23, and Luke Southerton, 30, faced magistrates in Birmingham accused of killing two-year-old Keanu Williams on January 9.
The child, known as Kiwi to his friends and family, was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital from an address in Old Moat Way in the Ward End area of Birmingham.
Shuttleworth, of Cottingham Road, Manchester, is further charged with causing/allowing Keanu’s death and two counts of child cruelty.
Dressed in light grey trousers and a dark grey hooded jumper, she spoke only to confirm her name and address to the court.
Southerton, of Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, wore light blue jeans and a grey patterned jumper for his appearance before the bench. He faces further counts of causing or allowing the death of a child and one charge of child cruelty.
Both defendants were remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday.
