Two men have appeared in court over the Birmingham murder of Coventry man Glenn Ford in 1993.

Alex Neilson, aged 40, formerly of Rothesay Road, Tile Hill and Conrad Jones, aged 44, formerly of Sewell Highway, Wyken, were arrested charged with murder on Wednesday and appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Thursday. Both were remanded in custody.

Mr Ford's body was found in Saltley on November 23, 1993. The 35-year-old father of two was killed in a former steel storage yard a day after he went missing. Police believe he was lured to the deserted factory before being shot several times at close range in the head and chest with a 9mm firearm.

Mr Ford was last seen alive leaving the 13th-floor flat he shared with his girlfriend and their two children at the former Pioneer House, in Adelaide Street, Hillfields, at about 11pm the previous night.

Despite extensive inquiries, the investigation closed later that year without a breakthrough. But the case was re-opened in October last year by West Midlands Police’s cold case murder review unit.

Last week, two other men – both from Birmingham – were also charged with murder in connection with the killing.

Gurmit Singh Birring, aged 52, of Islay Grove, Hartlepool, Teeside and Martin Singh Mattu, aged 41, of Tyber Drive, Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, were arrested as they arrived at Birmingham Airport.

All four defendants will appear before Birmingham Crown Court on September 3, where they are expected to enter their pleas.
