Three dangerous Birmingham criminals with almost 200 convictions between them have been given a total of more than ten extra years behind bars after breaking out of prison.

Paul Bartlett, Anthony Harbun and Stefan Woolley went on the run last December after escaping through a hatch in the roof after a workshop session at Stafford Prison, Worcester Crown Court heard yesterday.

Within minutes of their escape, Bartlett (37) and Woolley (23) who were both serving seven- year stretches for robbery, attacked a mum in front of her two children as they mugged her of her car keys, mobile phone and wallet.

Bartlett, of Cosford Crescent, Castle Vale, was given six months for escaping prison and three years for robbery. He was also given 30 months for being concerned in the supply of heroin.

Woolley, of Marsh Lane, Erdington, was given six months for breaking out of prison and three years for robbery. Harbun (36) of Shannon Road, Kings Norton, got nine months.

He had been serving three-and-a-half years for burglary.

David Mason, defending Bartlett, described the escape and robbery as "acts of stupidity".

He fled prison to spend time with his girlfriend and two- year- old son, Mr Mason added.
