Tributes have been paid to a mother who was killed at a New Year's Eve party near Shrewsbury.

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murdering 46-year-old Sharn Jones at a house in the village of Minsterley.

The man, aged in his 30s, remains in police custody while detectives await the results of a post-mortem examination. Tributes to Ms Jones poured in on the social networking website Facebook.

Friend Suzanne Lednor wrote: "I can't believe the 2009 comes and we are saying goodbye to you. Sharn, you have touched so many hearts in the short time I have known you and I know from above you will continue to do so xxx. Take care, angel x."

Sarah Parker wrote: "To Sharn and all her family. We have known each other years and years, we lost touch but found each other thanks to Facebook last year. I cannot believe that I have lost a great friend again. May you rest in peace. I will miss our chats and you calling in work. You will never be forgotten. you will always shine in your families' hearts.x."

The site features a photograph of Ms Jones taken early on New Year's Day.

Ms Jones, who described herself as single, was also pictured celebrating her son's 21st birthday just a few days ago. Her own Facebook status, written on January 1, still reads: "Sharn Jones is wishing all her friends and family a great new year..xxxx."

Police were called to the house in the Little Minsterley area shortly after 3am. Detectives said a New Year's Eve party was taking place and the man was arrested a short time after officers arrived.
