TRIBUTES have been paid to a Dudley dad after he was found allegedly murdered at the home he shared with his mother.

Kevin Jones, 47, was pronounced dead at the semi-detached house in Buxton Road in the Woodside area of town on Saturday night.

His mother Jean, 74, was taken to hospital with a leg injury after the incident at around 10.10pm.

William Spence, 38, of Fullwood Crescent, Dudley appeared before Dudley magistrates yesterday charged with murder and with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in connection with the incident. A further charge of failing to provide a sample for drug testing was withdrawn.

Spence was heckled from the public gallery as he was remanded in custody, to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court for a preliminary hearing tomorrow.

A friend of Mr Jones, who did not wish to be named, said he was a father-of-three who had separated from the mother of his children.

She added: “He never married. He was quiet and placid and used to work in scrapyards although he hadn’t worked recently. He made a few bad choices in life but didn’t deserve this.”

A neighbour said: “He had his own flat at one time but I think he came home. His mother is a lovely woman.”

Police were still combing the house, near the junction with Holly Hall Road, for clues yesterday.
