Politicians are expected to approve a bid for millions of pounds for transport improvements for Walsall.

Walsall Council is set to add its support to the 2005 West Midlands Local Transport Plan submission, which will be sent to the Department for Transport later this year.

Cabinet members meeting today have been asked to recommend that the full council approves the 2005 LTP when it meets later this month.

Martin Yardley, acting assistant director of the built environment, said: "We need an LTP so that everyone, including Government, can appreciate the issues, better understand the opportunities for change, and see how we might all play our part towards making Walsall and the West Midlands a better place in which to live."

The plan includes transport projects for Walsall, Darlaston and Brownhills as well as a proposed Metro tram line from Walsall to Wolverhampton and improvements to Junction 10 of the M6.
