Tickets have gone on sale for a glittering gala dinner in Birmingham to honour Formula 1 commentator Murray Walker.

The black tie event, on Saturday June 28, will follow a presentation to the Hall Green-born personality who is joining Ozzy Osbourne, Noddy Holder and Jasper Carrott on the Walk of Stars on the city's Broad Street.

Fellow TV sports pundit Gary Newbon will be joining Walker at the dinner for an informal question and answer session to entertain fellow celebrities and guests.

Walker, one of the most recognisable voices in British sport, was born in Birmingham in 1923. He has just launched his new book, The Murray Walker Scrapbook.

Allan Sartori, marketing director of the Broad Street Business Improvement District (BID), said: "Murray Walker is a national institution and the dinner will provide a great opportunity for guests to hear about his career first-hand.

"It promises to be an entertaining evening – a real must for anyone with an interest in motor racing and the man whose enthusiasm and knowledge of it has made him a legend." The dinner, at the Hyatt Hotel on Broad Street, will also be raising funds for the Birmingham Mail Charity Trust through ticket sales and a raffle, with top prizes donated by local businesses.

Tickets, priced £100 per head, are available from the BID office on Broad Street. Call Julie Amer or Caroline Ashton on 0121 693 2566 or email julie.amer@broadst.co.uk or caroline.ashton@broadst.co.uk for details.
