A three-year-old boy has died after collapsing while he bounced on a trampoline at his family home in Birmingham.

The tot’s mother frantically called 999 after the child stopped breathing in the garden of their house in West Heath.

Paramedics said the boy was suffering from cardiac arrest when they arrived at the house at 11am on Monday. He was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives investigating the tragedy have said there was no indication that the youngster had fallen and banged his head. The death was being treated as unexplained.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but proved inconclusive.

Police have not released the boy’s identity but said his parents were “absolutely devastated”.

A force spokesman said: “Police were called to an address in West Heath at 11am on Monday, where a three-year-old boy was found. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“A post-mortem examination has taken place but further tests are needed to establish the cause of death.”
