In what is believed to be the largest cannabis seizure by West Midlands Police, three tons of cannabis resin have been seized by detectives as a result of an investigation into the supply of controlled drugs in the region.

Officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Unit of West Midlands Police made the seizure from a property on the outskirts of Coventry on Tuesday 15 July.

The drugs were in six pallets - each containing 500 kg and divided into blocks of cannabis resin bars.

Believed to be of a high quality and with a wholesale value of £2.5 million and a potential street value of £9.5 million, the drugs are now being forensically examined by partners at the Forensic Science Service.

A substantial amount of cash - somewhere in the region of £20,000 was also seized from the property.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.
