Three men have appeared in court charged with killing an amateur footballer in a postmatch fracas.

Brothers Julian and Andrew Clarke are jointly accused with Neville Watkiss of the manslaughter of father-of-nine Tommy Slattery on April 3 this year.

Mr Slattery, aged 39, from Stockland Green, Birmingham, died following a Sunday league match in College Road, Kingstanding, between his side St Joseph's and a team from the Lozells area of the city.

Mr Slattery, a slaughterman, suffered a serious head injury and died in hospital.

The trio appeared at Sutton Coldfield Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Julian Clarke (25) gave his address as Chipperfield Road, Bromford, Birmingham; his 27-year-old brother is from Oliver Street, Nechells, also Birmingham, and Watkiss (30) from Chester Road, West Bromwich.

No pleas were entered. The accused were given conditional bail and will appear before Birmingham Crown Court on September 7.
