Dear Editor, On behalf of the Campaign for Learning, I would like to thank all the local organisations, workplaces and employees who took part in this year’s Learning at Work Day.

Our research shows that organisations that support their staff to learn and develop, whether it’s job related or learning for pleasure are able to cope better with change. They benefit from more motivated, productive and flexible employees able to learn new things and deal with challenges, whether it’s a new role or a new direction.

In the current economic climate, it’s easy to see learning and development as a cost rather than an investment. That’s why we are delighted that so many businesses showed a public commitment to learning on Learning at Work Day, by offering development activities to thousands of employees around the country.

We hope that even more organisations will join us next year for Learning at Work Day on 20 May, 2010.

Tricia Hartley

Chief Executive of the Campaign for Learning
