A computer package has been created to allow children to report incidents of bullying to their teachers via text message and the internet.

The BullyText software package has a built-in alert system to remind teaching staff and administrators that action is needed until the problem is addressed or resolved.

Birmingham-based Tempus Computers has piloted the technology at the city's George Dixon International School in Edgbaston and now plans to roll out the product all over the UK.

Chris Rixom, of Tempus Computers, said: "Too many children whose lives are made miserable by bullies are worried about speaking up or being seen taking their concerns to teachers.

"But if no one knows what they are going through, they cannot be given the support and advice they need.

"BullyText gives children another option so they can take that first step."

Schools that sign up for the £750 service receive a unique text number and web address.
