A man who was arrested at Birmingham Airport under the Terrorism Act has been released on bail.

West Midlands Police said the 22-year-old was held on suspicion of being in possession of a document likely to be of use to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

The overseas student, who is studying in the UK, was detained following a stop under Schedule 7 legislation after he arrived on a flight from Dubai on Monday.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to a local station.

The man, who police said is a Pakistani national and studying in the UK at a "fully accredited institution", has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

A police spokesman added: "The arrest was not as a result of any ongoing investigation and there was no immediate threat to the public."
