A Black Country man has been arrested on suspicion of encouraging an act of terrorism in connection with a website blog.

The 23-year-old from Dunstall, Wolverhampton, who has not been named, is being held by police in connection with an internet listing of politicians, who voted in favour of the invasion of Iraq in 2003, influenced a student to try to kill MP Stephen Timms.

The Black Country terror suspect was arrested yesterday at 9.30am at his home address, which has not been revealed by police, under the 2006 Terrorism Act.

A search was carried out, and a computer was seized for examination, along with other electronic equipment.

Det Chief Insp John Denley, of the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “We are treating the contents and implications of this blog very seriously, and have taken action this morning (Wednesday) to progress our investigation.”

The website was the same one that was said to have influenced student Roshonara Choudhry, who was jailed for life last week for stabbing East Ham MP Mr Timms.

A post on the site hailed her as a heroine and urged others to follow her example.
