Yoxall teenager Jodie Gratton takes part in her first senior Wakeboard UK event tomorrow at the Ten-80 meeting at West Midlands Waterski Centre, near Cliff in Warwickshire.

The 19-year-old, who finished third in the junior girls' section of the UK tour final last year, is entered in the open women's section where she will compete with some of the country's finest professional riders.

The competition is the first of the season and will see riders attempt to win points towards their overall UK ranking at the end of the year.

The event gets underway at 9am tomorrow and will consist of six different categories encompassing age-ranges from ten upwards. Afterwards there will be a pipe dragon slider and Big Air disciplines, followed by a party.

The sport has grown out of waterskiing and sees competitors try to ride the wake of specially-weighted boats.

Jodie started wakeboarding three years ago but has been waterskiing since she was eight and is looking for sponsors to help her turn professional. The club can be contacted on 01827 874404.
