A teenager is due in court charged with murdering a Birmingham student who died after an alleged street attack.

The 17-year-old was set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today in connection with the death of 18-year-old Jordan Sargeant.

The college student, from Quinton, died in hospital after the alleged attack in Quinton High Street on Thursday night.

He returned home but was taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition until his family made a decision to turn off his life support machine.

Jordan, who was studying sports studies at Halesowen College, died in the early hours of Saturday morning with his relatives at his bedside.

Two other youths, both aged 16, arrested in connection with Jordan’s death have been bailed pending further inquiries.
