A teenager has admitted murdering a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed at a bus stop near Matthew Boulton College in Birmingham city centre.

Damien Belle, 18, pleaded guilty to the murder of Odwayne Barnes after changing his plea on the first day of a trial at the city’s crown court. Two other defendants, Nathaniel Darby and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, deny murdering Odwayne outside a college in the city centre on March 7.

Darby, 20, of Wyrley Way, Erdington, and the 17-year-old defendant are due to stand trial later.

Belle, of Heathway, Shard End, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the end of the trial.
