A teenage motorcyclist was in a critical condition in hospital last night following a start-line crash in a championship race.

The 14-year-old was one of seven competitors caught up in the collision which stopped the British 125cc Championship race at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.

Chris Jones, from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, was flown by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary where he remains in a critical condition.

The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board, who organised the race, confirmed three riders had been injured in the collision.

They were all treated at the scene and then at the circuit medical centre before being transferred to the nearest hospitals.

Carl-Thomas Andrews, 14, from Newark, injurded his right shoulder injury. Jon Vincent, 38, from Bickerstaffe, Lancashire, sustained abdominal injuries.
