Dear Editor, Following the riots individually and as a country we showed our appreciation of the men and women whom, on a daily basis and without thought for themselves, provide us with protection and support.

On the May 10 the same police officers are being forced to march on Parliament (cap in hand) to try and prevent cuts to their wages, pensions and jobs.

Will the people of London walk alongside them? Will we place banners of support in our cars and shop windows?

Or when the sun shines will we forget how we felt in the midst of a storm and ignore the obvious: it won’t be the police officer outside of Number 10 who loses his job, but those who have helped us in the past and would have continued to do so in the future.

I am a housewife and aside from this letter I can do very little to show my immense gratitude and respect for the men and women who police our streets.

But on May 10 I will send an email to my local MP and place a sign in the window of my car “Supporting our Police”, and hope others will do the same.
