Former Wonder Stuff drummer Martin Gilks has died in a London hospital following a motorcycle accident.

The band, who were formed in Stourbridge in the 1980s, enjoyed success in the early 1990s with hits such as Don't Let Me Down Gently, The Size Of A Cow and Welcome To The Cheap Seats.

After the group split in 1994 Gilks, aged 41, went into management, working with rock bands A, Reef and Hundred Reasons.

A spokesman for his company, Furtive, said last night: "He was greatly loved by many and will be sorely missed by all his family and friends."

A statement issued on the Wonder Stuff's official website said: "It is a tragic loss to all his family and friends."
