Former Aston OE scrum-half Gary Street is joining the England Women's Elite coaching team for the 2006-2007 season.

Street, who was previously the RFUW's Academy coach, will join former Moseley prop Graham Smith as an England assistant coach and both coaches will work alongside head coach Geoff Richards.

Street, who played representative rugby for Greater Birmingham, will continue to oversee the planning and preparation of the Under-19 squad while Smith will do likewise for the A squad.

Street is also a former coach of the Birmingham University women's team.

Giselle Mather, who has been working as an assistant coach with the England squad, will now continue her own professional development by becoming head coach of the England Under-19s.

Street said: "This is a very exciting challenge for me and I am looking forward to working with the current crop of England players, who did such a fantastic job in the recent IRB Rugby World Cup to finish second, while developing the next generation of international stars as we start the new cycle of building towards the 2010 Rugby World Cup."

* Moseley's Billesley Common ground has been chosen as the venue for North Midlands Under-19s' defence of the Sable's Head Trophy against Warwickshire next Wednesday (7.30pm).

The trophy, which is a mounted antelope's skull, was presented to the combined Midlands Colts by the touring Cape Town and Stellenbosch Universities team in the early-1960s and was competed for annually as the prize for the Midlands Colts Championship.

North Midlands and Warwickshire are the only two Midlands counties still fielding representative teams at Under-19 level, so the trophy is decided on aggregate over two legs.

North Midlands reclaimed the trophy last season after two years in Warwickshire's possession and will attempt to defend it at Moseley next week and in the return leg at Broadstreet on Wednesday October 25.

North Midlands' only other Under-19 game this season will be on November 12, when they travel north to face Yorkshire.
