The stage premiere of Rudy’s Rare Records starring Lenny Henry opened at Birmingham Repertory Theatre last month.

The first night performance received a standing ovation as did the first night party afterwards as DJ Simon Fox ensured guests were dancing late into the night.

Based on the successful BBC Radio 4 series, written by Danny Robins and which Lenny Henry co-created as well as starred in, Rudy’s Rare Records is a funny and touching comedy set in an old reggae record shop in Birmingham.

Directed by Paulette Randall the cast included Larrington Walker, Joivan Wade, Lorna Gayle, Natasha Godfrey and Jeffery Kissoon.

Following the world premiere in Birmingham the show has since gone on to enjoy a sold-out run at the Hackney Empire, London.

Lenny Henry is also now supporting the future of The REP with a specially- recorded fundraising message for the theatre’s box office.
