Loughborough UCCE have reached 233 for four in their first innings against Worcestershire

Worcestershire's bowlers were on the receiving end for much of a rain-affected first day of their three-day match at Kidderminster.

After winning the toss, Loughborough opening pair Richard Clinton and Ed Foster compiled a stand of 197, only for the visitors to be pegged back late in the day when four wickets went down for just 26 runs.

Surrey batsman Clinton was just one short of a career-best score in hitting 106 before becoming Zander de Bruyn's first first- class victim for Worcestershire.

And Foster, who plays his club cricket at Shrewsbury and is already a regular for his native county Shropshire, weighed in with 82 on a typically flat Chester Road track.

But, after losing the entire afternoon session to rain, Worcester's spinners hit back late in the day.

Ray Price captured two of the other three wickets to fall, including Foster caught at slip, while Shaftab Khalid also helped apply the brakes and fitagain Nadeem Malik got his first scalp of the summer when he had Worcester Academy hopeful Will Gifford caught behind.

Worcester, who have three locally- reared youngsters, Steve Davies, Daryl Mitchell and Stuart Wedge making their firstclass debuts, will hope to make rapid inroads today, allowing their batsmen some much-needed time out in the middle.
