Birmingham's own friendly neighbourhood Spiderman scaled the city's Crowne Plaza Hotel yesterday to fulfil a little boy's dream.

Three-year-old Harry Durose, from Stoke-onTrent, Staffordshire, who has a life-threatening illness called brain stem glioma, which is a rare type of brain tumour, was asked by the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK charity what his most favourite wish would be.

He said he wanted the superhero to use his spidey-sense to rescue his mother and, together with West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service, the charity was able to make his dream come true.

Earlier in the day, Harry, his mother Mel Ayre, father Wayne Durose, brother Tom, aged 12, and sister Tammy, aged ten, were collected by the police and given a tour of the city before reaching the city centre.

Shortly before 5pm, Ms Ayre left the group - and was rescued from the balcony of a smoke-filled sixth floor room by

Spiderman, before he disappeared by crawling back up the hotel wall to the sound of cheering and clapping from the gathered crowds.

Make-A-Wish Foundation UK regional manager, Jenny Mould, said: "The secret of Spider-man's success lay in his close links with both the police, and fire and rescue services.

"Without their help, we would not have been able to secure Spiderman's services."

Ms Ayre said: "I know tomorrow morning when Harry opens his eyes, it will be the first thing he will talk about and he will ask if he can see Spider-man again." ..SUPL:
