Two speakers have been added to a major Birmingham business conference about opportunities in the US marketplace.

Keynote speaker Stephen Ball, chief executive of American defence giant Lockheed Martin UK, will be joined by Stephen Stambaugh and Fionnuala Earley, of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), at October’s ‘Business Opportunities in the US Marketplace 2011’ event.

The conference is being hosted by the British American Business Council and UK Trade & Investment, and takes place on 20 October at the International Convention Centre.

Stephen Stambaugh is senior vice president of RBS Citizens Bank’s mid-corporate banking division and manager of the foreign corporate group, which specialises in banking US subsidiaries of UK firms.

As well as introducing RBS and its services to the conference, he will be taking part in two round table sessions later in the day.

He said: “The bilateral trade and investment relationship between the UK and the US remains immensely important.

“For UK companies exporting to the US or with US subsidiaries and other direct investments in the US, RBS and its Citizens Financial Group subsidiary will be offering banking products and solutions to meet these companies’ treasury management and financing needs.”

Fionnuala Earley is a consumer economist with RBS, and was formerly chief economist at Nationwide Building Society. She will be speaking about the US economy and why it is an attractive market for UK exporters.

A further speaker at the event is Professor Bob Stone, director of the human interface technologies team at the University of Birmingham.

More than 100 delegates have now signed up for the conference, which will give businesses the opportunity to meet US commercial officers and international finance experts in one-to-one appointments.
