Paul Merson has taken Rafael Gonzalez Robles, a Spanish goalkeeper, on trial with Walsall.
Merson, the Walsall manager, already has Andy Oakes and Dean Coleman on the goalkeeping staff but is keen to reinforce his squad.
Robles was in action during the friendly match two days ago away to Redditch United, which ended in a goalless draw.
Merson said: "I'd say the goalkeeping department is the one area where we need to strengthen, it's a priority at the moment. Rafael did very well against Redditch and we'll have another look at him in a reserve game next week."
Merson says that discussions with Matty Fryatt over a new contract are still on going. The England Under-19 International scored his first goal of the season on Tuesday evening in the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest.
"We are still in talks with Matty," Merson said. "There have been a few enquiries about him but no firm bids at this stage. It's been a busy start to the season for us with three games in this opening week, so we will be sitting down shortly to continue our negotiations."
Meanwhile, Sean Platt and Lee Vaughan have joined non-league Willenhall Town on loan for a month, although they will continue to train with the Saddlers.
