A legal watchdog has issued a warning over bogus law firms trading under the guise of two legitimate legal practices in Alum Rock, Birmingham.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority said it had received information which indicates an office operating as Gokciler & Co and ACS Associates at 88 Bowyer Road, Alum Rock, is not a legitimate branch office operating by those names.
Gokciler Solicitors, of Dalston Lane, London, is a legitimate solicitor’s practice operated by Gulchin Gokciler, while ACS Associates of Stamford New Road Cheshire, is a legitimate practice operated by Anthony Sheil.
The SRA is warning that any business operating as, or transactions undertaken by, Gokciler Solicitors or ACS Associates from the Bowyer Road, Birmingham address are not undertaken by a solicitor’s practice authorised by the SRA, and are not regulated by the SRA.
A spokesman for the SRA urged members of the public not to send money to either of the bogus firms operating at the Birmingham address.
He said: “If someone purports to be a solicitor from one of these two firms then don’t give them any money and give us a shout.
“If anyone has any information about the firm Gokciler & Co or ACS Associates operating from Bowyer Road, Birmingham please also contact the SRA.”
The SRA also confirmed it is still investigating another case in Alum Rock involving a business which was alleged to be falsely trading as a legitimate law firm.
It concerned an office at 291-221 Alum Rock Road that appeared to be a legitimate practice of the solicitor’s practice AA Law of Heath Road, Skegness.
An SRA warning was issued concering the Birmingham AA Law operation in December last year.
The SRA spokesman said investigations were continuing but added “there hasn’t been any real progress”.
The spokesman added any dealings people have had with either firm at the Alum Rock address, particularly involving the payment of money, should be reported urgently to the SRA red alert line on 01926 4396731 or 0845 8500999.
