A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a businesswoman from Staffordshire found in a park. Moira Jones, 40, was discovered by a ranger in Queens Park, Glasgow, on May 29.

The Crown Office said Marek Harcar, 32, from Slovakia, appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court charged with murder. He was also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice. A spokeswoman said Harcar made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody. She added no application for bail had been made.

Harcar was detained in Slovakia last month after a European Arrest Warrant was obtained by the Crown Office. He was extradited to Scotland on Wednesday.

Sales executive Ms Jones had been living in Glasgow for five years, where she worked for Britvic. She was last seen leaving a friend's house in the Cranstonhill area at about 10.30pm on May 28.
