After bashing governments and extolling the virtues of British industry, CBI director general Sir Digby Jones has revealed his plans when he quits - as an author.

Sir Digby said the as-yet untitled book will feature his thoughts on his seven years at the helm of the CBI and how it has changed his opinions.

Special sections on China, the US and the environment are promised, as well as a "riveting" chapter on the European Union.

After a few years on the soap box, the former Birmingham lawyer should have some interesting views.

This is, after all, the man who said: "How can school leavers hope to succeed if they cannot read or write?"
