Birmingham City's Premier League position and points tally is not good enough, Scott Dann has admitted.

And the defender said Blues had to use the Manchester United result as a springboard for better things.

Blues climbed out of the relegation zone on goal difference with the draw at St Andrew's and now have 19 points.

“We’re hoping the other night can kickstart us,” said Dann. “We are nearly halfway through the season and we know we’ve got to start getting a lot more points.

“Yes, we’re disappointed with how many we’ve got. In quite a few games, we haven’t played as well as we would like but there have also been times when we have been a bit unfortunate and could have had quite a few more points.

“At the end of the day, you can say that all we want. We have the points we have and we’ve just got to try and move up the table.

“We need to take all the confidence we can from the United result into Saturday’s game against Arsenal.”

Dann said that Lee Bowyer, Blues' goalscoring hero against United who turns 34 next week, had it in him to carry on for a few more years yet.

“That sort of goal is Bow for you. He did it last season, scored some important goals, when he was one of our top goalscorers.

“He earned us a lot of important points last season. That is what you get from him.

“He makes those good runs and he has got a good goal tally. He is still very fit and still loves the games and showed again against United that he still wants it.

“If he carries on putting in performances like that, then there is no reason why he can’t carry on.

“He has played at the top level all his career, he is still putting in performances like that and scoring big goals and getting points for us. He can still do it at the top level.”
