A school bus driver who sent a 12-year-old girl a mobile phone video message of a man being beheaded escaped prison.

John Stoneman (39), sent the 30-second long video clip to the girl as she was being driven to school by him on his bus.

The girl, who has not been identified, was left "shocked and upset" by the video, Yeovil Magistrates' Court heard.

The Russian video clip showed a screaming man being held down and then being beheaded.

Stoneman from Yeovil, was given a six-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to communicating a video message that contained material of an indecent or grossly offensive nature.

Ordering Stoneman to pay his victim £50 compensation, chair of the magistrates, David Phillips, said no compensation for the "distress and pain caused" was adequate.
