The annual Warwickshire closed tournament at St Augustines, Coventry, this weekend will have new titleholders in the men's and ladies' singles.

Mark Sellwood, the reigning champion, will be participating in a tournament in the Czech Republic while Nicky Duerdan will be missing from the ladies event.

The Warwickshire captain, Chris Roe, looks oddson favourite to retain the men's doubles title with Carl Goode and the mixed doubles with Coventry's Catherine Grant after the omission of Chris Tonks.

Tonks, who will be missing from the KRS squad in the Birmingham League this season due to international duties, will be in the Czech Republic competing in the men's and mixed doubles events.

The Birmingham University combination of Mary Le Druillanec and Sarah Stevenson look a safe bet to win the ladies' doubles title, but will face a crop of upandcoming youngsters.

* Solihull & Shirley's second mixed side won their opening match of the Birmingham League season.

Combinations of Andy Kitching with Carol Moran and Rob Forrester with Sheila Stones remained unbeaten in the opening exchanges in inflicting on their own club's third team an emphatic 8-1 defeat.
