The southbound carriageway of the M42 has been closed after a collision between two lorries in Worcestershire.

The accident happened between junctions 2 and 3 of the motorway shortly before 10.45am today. One of the lorry cabs became detached from its trailer.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “One of the drivers, a man in his 30s, had minor injuries of just cuts to his face and arms.

"He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital, in Redditch, for further assessment and treatment.

“The driver of the other lorry, a Latvian man in his fifties, was uninjured, but he was in shock and he was taken to the same hospital as a precaution.”

The southbound carriageway of the M42 was closed from junction 2 to 3 with heavy delays of up to an hour between junction 3 and 3A.

The road was expected to open again at about 3pm.
