A second person has been arrested over the murder of a man whose body was found with his hands and feet bound in his burnt-out Birmingham home.

The 37-year-old Birmingham man was held on Sunday afternoon by murder squad detectives investigating the “appalling” death of Mark Clarkson.

An 18-year-old man has already been charged with murder and appeared before Birmingham Magistrates yesterday.

Reece Mason, of Court Oak Road, Quinton, was accused of killing Mr Clarkson and remanded in custody until a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court on April 14.

Mr Clarkson, aged 48, had been tied up and beaten, suffering two or three injuries to his head and face, before his house in nearby Copperbeech Road, Quinton, had been set ablaze.

Police branded the killing “an appalling crime”.

A spokesman said, “A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Mark Clarkson and is currently being questioned by detectives.”

Firefighters found Mr Clarkson’s body lying in a downstairs room after being alerted to the blaze at his home by neighbours at about 2.30pm on Saturday March 28.
