A superb century from Sam Seadon powered Halesowen to the top of the First Division of the Birmingham League.

Seadon blazed a century off just 47 balls, striking eight sixes and ten fours, to help his side to an imposing total of 300 for three and an overwhelming victory by 247 runs.

A career in first-class cricket may have passed 24-year-old Seadon by, but on such form he looks a highly accomplished player. He has represented Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Somerset, Surrey and North-ants at second XI level in the last couple of years, and Cumberland and Staffordshire at minor counties level, often with some success, but has yet to make that step up to the first-class game.

His innings on Saturday may have nudged one or two county coaches. Faisal Shahid, with an unbeaten 104, added solid support.

He scored only 20 runs in the time that Seadon rushed to his century, but in reply Aston Unity were simply blown away and are now well adrift at the foot of the table. Ali took six for 17 as only one Unity man could manage double figures and they folded within 26 overs for a paltry 53.

Warwickshire's Tim Ambrose kept up his challenge for a first-team recall - perhaps as a specialist batsmen - but it wasn't enough to clinch victory for title challenging Harborne.

Ambrose (102), with support from James Moreton (57) and Darren Franklin (59), helped Harborne to a challenging total, but 81 from Hill meant Water Orton finished just 41 short when their overs ran out.

Elsewhere a devastating spell of seven for 16 from Amit Suman helped Sutton Coldfield crush Bromsgrove by 145 runs, while struggling Smeth-wick were destroyed by third-placed Shifnal. Jono Whitney, with four for 21, was the chief destroyer as Smethick were dismissed for an inadequate 96. Shifnal took just 32.4 overs to clinch the win.

In-form Luke Parker nudged Warwickshire coach Mark Greatbatch with 118 for Stratford, but it was not enough to prevent his side from defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton.

Parker was the only Stratford batsmen able to prosper against a Wolverhampton attack led by Jamshed Khan (five for 74), and former Derbyshire batsman Andrew Gait (145 not out) soon made light of their total.

Warwickshire's England Under-17 fast bowler Chris Woakes took four wickets as Walmley defeated Leamington Spa by 110 runs. Murray Hampson also finished with four wickets as Leamington collapsed to 102 all out in reply to Walmley's 212 for eight.

Cannock won the key battle at the top of the Second Division. Guy Bulpitt's five for 29 and Lee Haynes' 88 were the key performances as top of the table Cannock underlined their promotion prospects with a 56-run success.

Aston Manor move into second place with a five-wicket victory over Fordhouses. Ravi Sehn (four for 12 and 60 runs) produced the key all-round performance.

Bridgnorth captain, Peter Thompson, led from the front by scoring an unbeaten 150 against Attock. With Ian Lock then taking six for 59, Bridgnorth completed a 67-run success.

Former England and Worcestershire swing bowler Neal Radford took four for 54 as Evesham recorded a five-wicket win over Old Elizabethans.

Perhaps the performance of the day came from Rajat Bhtia in the Third Division. The Indian all-rounder made an unbeaten 200 for Newport before opening the bowling and taking three wickets. It was not enough to clinch victory against Ombersley, however, whose last pair managed cling on to secure the draw. ..SUPL:
