A schoolgirl has suffered serious leg injuries after being bitten by a dog in a Wolverhampton park.

The incident happened at Bantock Park, on Broad Lane, at around 11.05am on Tuesday during a school outing.

A West Midlands ambulance service spokesman said: "One of the children, a girl believed to be 11 years old, had been bitten by a dog that was in the park with its owner.  The girl suffered serious lower and upper leg injuries, including a deep laceration. 

“She received emergency treatment at the scene for her injuries, including receiving pain relief.  The girl was transferred by land ambulance to New Cross Hospital for further assessment and emergency treatment."
