Steve Bruce joked that his job was safe for another week after seeing his side perform a comprehensive demolition job on Sheffield United.

Bruce said: "It shows what a difference a week can make in football. This time last week (after a 1-0 defeat to Norwich) was one of the worst nights of my life in football.

"I can't remember the last time we scored four goals away from home and I hope that shuts a few people up after all the nonsense that has gone on.

"I should be safe for another seven days until we lose another game and the next crisis starts!

"I hope it goes away now as we have some good young players at this club who are going to be big players for Birmingham."

Bruce, visibly struggling in his post-match press conference with a virus, added: "I was coughing into the big white telephone at four o'clock this morning. However, that was a very good performance."

Cameron Jerome suffered a calf injury and Dudley Campbell a twisted ankle. Jerome should be fit to play against Albion but Campbell is a doubt.
