A six-year-old Midland boy was so traumatised by a school bully that he threatened to kill himself with a kitchen knife.

Ross Tonks grabbed the knife at his home in Bedworth, Warwickshire, after his mother Rosemary insisted he went to school.

His parents say the youngster's cry for help came after two years of bullying at St Michael's Church of England Primary School in Bedworth. Ross, now aged eight, finally had to move to another school.

But his family has criticised the school and Warwickshire County Council, claiming they failed to take adequate steps to address the problem.

Mrs Tonks said: "I pleaded for help but I wasn't getting any. The school said they didn't class it as bullying. I got in contact with the governors and had some meetings with the LEA but I felt I hit a brick wall with them."

The Post contacted the school but was referred to Warwickshire County Council, where no one was available for comment.

Ross, who features in a BBC documentary tonight, is now at St Giles Primary School in Bedworth, where he is thriving.
