Roger Dowthwaite, the former chief executive of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and Business Link, has been appointed to a major new regional post.

Mr Dowthwaite, aged 52, is the new director of economic development for Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Partnership, the organisation which looks to encourage private, public, voluntary and education sectors to work together towards generating growth and prosperity.

He parted company with Black Country Chamber last year after the organisation decided on both a change of direction and personnel.

He said: "My role is to help Coventry and Warwickshire make the most of the immense economic opportunities which lie ahead.

"This area is the fastestgrowing sub-region in the West Midlands. It certainly has a great location and a superb range of industries and has always displayed a huge ability to adapt to changing economic trends and conditions.

"CSWP is all about harnessing the abilities of the private and public sector so we can deliver our vision."

Mr Dowthwaite, who spent four years as chief executive of Black Country Chamber and Business Link, will report to the CSWP board which is chaired by Brian Woods-Scawen and made up of major local companies, the area's local authorities, Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce and other agencies.

Mr Woods-Scawen said: "Roger's role is to deliver our strategy of investment, jobs and a better life for everyone in Coventry and Warwickshire."
