West Bromwich Albion club captain Kevin Campbell claims the only thing standing in the way of there being two Paul Robinsons in the England team is the fact that the Baggies' version does not play for a big enough club.
Campbell has joined the chorus of players touting the claims of the Albion left-back to join his namesake, the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, in Sven-Goran Eriksson's England squad.
And, although the on-loan Kieran Richardson did not escape Eriksson's gaze, when he was called up at the end of last season, Campbell insists: "I don't think that, just because he plays for Albion, it should stand in Paul's way.
"I think there is a bias. Definitely.
"The England squad nearly picks itself but, when squads were being put together that gave other players a chance, I was surprised he did not get the nod.
"Consistency-wise, I don't think there's been a better left-back. I'm sure Mr Eriksson knows of him. But it's funny how he keeps being overlooked when, week-in, week-out, he's performing to such a high level.
"He's as good as any left back I've played with. And he's probably been our most consistent player since I've been at the club.
"He very rarely puts a foot wrong, is a very good defender, gets forward, is fit as a fiddle and reads the game well."
Albion's skipper had particular reason to be pleased with Robinson's inclination to attack and the way he reads the game when the Baggies No 3 set up Campbell's goal - his first strike in nine months - in last weekend's 2-0 victory over Manchester City.
"The way he played the one-two, coupled with the tenacity he showed to get to the ball first and get that good a cross in was something that needs no underlining," he said.
"Everybody appreciated his part in the goal.
"And now we've gone four games unbeaten, who's to say he won't get recognised.
"Any player who's played against him knows they've been in a very hard game.
"It's World Cup year and Paul is a left-footer, who can play left-back or left-midfield. When you talk about balance of teams, you need players who can play in different positions consistently and he can do that."
