Police closed off part of a main road into Stourbridge town centre after a suspicious package was found on board a bus.

Officers were called at 11.45am after a passenger reporting seeing the package on board the bus, travelling along Birmingham Street (A458).

The bus was evacuated and a cordon was put in place until experts attended the scene and confirmed it was nothing of concern

Residents from Birmingham Street were expected to be allowed to return home when the road re-opened at about 3.30pm.

Acting Inspector Jenson Bloomer from Dudley Police said: "We thank the public for their patience with this matter and hope that the alert hasn't caused too much disruption to their day.

"Thankfully the package was found to be nothing of concern and emergency services will now stand down from the area."
